About the Candidate

A voice for students, parents, and teachers

family3_edited.jpg

Erin believes that everyone should feel welcome and safe at school. She will advocate for students, parents, and teachers from all backgrounds, beliefs, and abilities.

Her time as a parent volunteer connects her with a diverse group of parents with equally diverse children.

Her experience as a substitute teacher gives her a better understanding of the challenges students and educators face today.

What to expect from Erin as trustee:

  • Promote guidelines and processes that allow for more transparency and accountability from the district and school board

  • Prioritize students and teachers in all policies and budget considerations so that every family has access to a quality education no matter if they attend their neighborhood school or a choice school.

  • Improve two-way communication so everyone feels heard and valued

  • Collaboration with the district and broader community

PARENT VOLUNTEER Thirteen years ago Erin started her journey with MVWSD when her daughter began kindergarten at Bubb Elementarty School. She signed up to be a classroom volunteer which turned into joining the PTA Executive Board and co-chairing schoolwide events like Walkathon & Silent Auction and Scholastic Book Fair. At Graham Middle School she continued to work on the PTA Board and collaborated with administrators, teachers, and parents to try to make Graham a more inclusive community, especially during the pandemic. Once her daughter moved up to high school, Erin was lucky to start again, this time at Stevenson Elementary. As a PACT parent she loves volunteering for their Arts Focus program, Parent Support Committee, and Social Committee.

TEACHING Before moving to Mountain View, Erin earned her B.S. in Elementary Education at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. She started substitute teaching for MVWSD in 2015 when she heard there was a need for more qualified subs in the district. She has taught every grade K-8, but spends most of her time at the middle schools where she finds the students to be challenging, but strangely charming. Although her specialties are math and science, she has taught every subject at least once either as a day-to-day sub, short term or long term sub.
